How to Enable AdGuard DNS on All Your Devices (iPhone, Android, Windows, and Wi-Fi Router)

AdGuard DNS is a free public DNS service that automatically blocks ads, trackers, and certain malicious websites without requiring you to install an extension or application. You simply need to change the DNS addresses used by your device or router.

In this tutorial, we'll see how to configure it manually on:

  • iPhone (iOS)
  • Android
  • Windows
  • Your Wi-Fi router

What Is DNS, and Why Switch to AdGuard?

DNS (Domain Name System) translates domain names (e.g. example.com) into IP addresses. By using a DNS server such as AdGuard, requests to domains known for advertising, tracking, or scams are blocked before the content even loads.

AdGuard offers 3 types of public DNS servers:

Server typeEffect
DefaultBlocks ads and trackers
UnfilteredBlocks nothing; works as a standard DNS server
Family ProtectionBlocks ads, trackers, and adult content + enables SafeSearch

Server Addresses (DNS / IP)

Default server

  • IPv4: 94.140.14.14 and 94.140.15.15
  • IPv6: 2a10:50c0::ad1:ff and 2a10:50c0::ad2:ff

Unfiltered server

  • IPv4: 94.140.14.140 and 94.140.14.141
  • IPv6: 2a10:50c0::1:ff and 2a10:50c0::2:ff

Family Protection server

  • IPv4: 94.140.14.15 and 94.140.15.16
  • IPv6: 2a10:50c0::bad1:ff and 2a10:50c0::bad2:ff

For encrypted DNS (DNS-over-HTTPS, used on iOS/Android with "Private DNS"):

  • Default: dns.adguard-dns.com
  • Unfiltered: unfiltered.adguard-dns.com
  • Family Protection: family.adguard-dns.com

1. Configure AdGuard DNS on Android

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet (or Wi-Fi & Internet, depending on your Android version).

  2. Open Advanced → Private DNS.

  3. Select Private DNS provider hostname, then enter one of the following hostnames depending on the mode you want:

    • dns.adguard-dns.com (blocks ads and trackers)
    • unfiltered.adguard-dns.com (no filtering)
    • family.adguard-dns.com (family protection)
  4. Tap Save.

That's it! Your Android device will now use AdGuard DNS on all networks (Wi-Fi and mobile data).

2. Configure AdGuard DNS on iPhone (iOS)

On iOS, the easiest method is to install a configuration profile:

  1. Open the AdGuard DNS public DNS page from your iPhone and go to the iOS section.

  2. Choose the server you want (Default, Unfiltered, or Family Protection), then tap Download configuration profile.

    • Tip: The Profile Constructor allows you to customize the profile, including choosing DNS-over-HTTPS or DNS-over-TLS encryption and excluding certain Wi-Fi networks or domains.
  3. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

  4. You should see Profile Downloaded at the top of the settings. Tap it.

  5. Tap Install, then follow the instructions on screen (passcode, confirmation, etc.).

Once installed, your iPhone will use AdGuard DNS natively, including when using mobile data.

3. Configure AdGuard DNS on Windows

  1. Go to Start → Control Panel.

  2. Click Network and Internet.

  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  4. In the left-hand menu, select Change adapter settings.

  5. Right-click the Wi-Fi connection (or Ethernet connection) you are using, then select Properties.

  6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

  7. Select Use the following DNS server addresses, then enter:

    • Preferred DNS server: 94.140.14.14
    • Alternate DNS server: 94.140.15.15

    (Replace these with 94.140.14.140 / 94.140.14.141 for the Unfiltered version, or 94.140.14.15 / 94.140.15.16 for Family Protection.)

  8. Click OK.

  9. Do the same for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) if you also want to configure IPv6:

    • Preferred: 2a10:50c0::ad1:ff
    • Alternate: 2a10:50c0::ad2:ff
  10. Click OK, then Close.

4. Configure AdGuard DNS Directly on Your Wi-Fi Router

Configuring DNS at the router level allows you to protect all devices connected to your home network without having to install or configure anything on each individual device.

  1. Open a web browser and access your router's administration interface. Common addresses depending on the brand include:

    • Linksys / Asus: 192.168.1.1
    • Netgear: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
    • D-Link: 192.168.0.1
    • (For a router provided by an Algerian or local ISP, check the label underneath the router. The address is often listed there.)
  2. Log in using the administrator credentials (often printed on the router; otherwise, contact your ISP).

  3. Look for the DNS section in the network/WAN settings.

  4. Replace the existing DNS addresses with AdGuard's:

    • IPv4: 94.140.14.14 and 94.140.15.15
    • IPv6 (if available): 2a10:50c0::ad1:ff and 2a10:50c0::ad2:ff
  5. Save the changes and restart the router if requested.

⚠️ Some routers, especially those provided by ISPs, lock this setting. In that case, you'll need to configure DNS directly on each device (see the previous sections).

Verify That It Works

Once the configuration is complete, you can check whether AdGuard DNS is working properly by visiting:

If everything is working correctly, you should get a score above 80%, as shown in the image:

Take It Further

If you want more control (blocking statistics, custom filter lists, domain exclusions), AdGuard also offers a paid private DNS service that can be configured from a dashboard, as well as the AdGuard Ad Blocker app, which configures everything automatically.

You can even self-host all of this on your NAS or server.
